Training Officer

Main Purpose

The major aim of this role is to coordinate the design, development, delivery and evaluation of training, learning and development programmes of the organization and to equip the growing number of staffs and stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills so as to increase our quality of work and to effectively address Hope for Justice strategic pillars such as prevent, rescue, restore and reform in a professional way. The person is responsible for the management and coordination of training activities to ensure that training, learning and development activities are implemented in accordance with the detail implementation plans and standards by engaging with external stakeholders and partner organizations through workshops, training, seminars, write-shops by echoing Hope for Justice Vision, Mission and Strategies. In addition, the Training Officer will work with programme team to identify forthcoming training requirements and develop strategies to increase the impact of our work.

Main Duties

1.       Management of training activities, strategies, methodologies, design and delivery

2.       Conduct rapid assessments and mapping training activities to identify gaps in training provision to guide the development of training strategies, protocols and plan

3.       Support planning and coordination of training program and its activities

4.       Support the development of training materials, tools and best practices to assist quality implementations of training across the organization and maintain proper documentation.

5.       Keep updated records and create reports and profile for training activities across the country portfolio

6.       Assists in preparing and formatting documents, including PowerPoint presentations, attendances, pre and post testes, training agendas, invitations, and training profile

7.       Plans and facilitates printed & digital communication including IEC and BCC materials, social media, and web-based knowledge management system, and communications through any media relations

8.       Manage capacity building and technical assistance activities for staff, partners and stakeholders by organizing quality trainings

9.       Travel for site visits to assist in regional and Zonal level training, complete general evaluations of training program progress, collect program information, participate in coaching and quality check activities

10.   Establish and manage mechanisms for exchange of information, experience and lessons learned about training programmes at the local and national levels

11.   Design and develop high quality flyers, publications, infographics, banners, roll ups and other graphic design products to support the organization’s social, academic, research and policy dialogues activities.

12.   Works well as part of a cross functional team and possess a “can-do” attitude, ready to roll-up sleeves and participate at all levels while proactively approaching problem solving

13.   Support training program activities are of the highest quality and compliant with Hope for Justice’ Standard Operating Procedures

14.   Assist in timely submission of training reports after every training and produce organizational quarterly, semi-annual and annual training reports.

15.   Organize regular team meetings and conference calls/video-conferences, often over different time zones, including the preparation and distribution of documents and providing the necessary technical devices including information sharing and maintain minutes for partner dialogues and roundtables.

16.   Maintain proper documentation of training documents and reports.

17.   Working in close collaboration with the programme team to identify and engaging external trainers, resource persons and consultants for specific trainings.

18.   Support the Programme Director in the training strategic development of Hope for Justice Ethiopia

19.   Performs other related duties in accordance with instructions from Country Programmes Director.

20.   Uphold and work within Hope for Justice’s policies and procedures, including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Child & Vulnerable Adult Protection policies.

21.   Promote Hope for Justice’s core values of Honoring, Openness, Professionalism and Empowerment across the organization and partners

22.   Undertake any other duties, as appropriate to the post, as delegated by the PD

23.   Represent the organization in different review meeting, workshop and network meetings as needed

For all roles:

Understand and uphold the standards outlined in the Hope for Justice Safeguarding policies, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with our work and reporting concerns if they do arise. The employee will go through security and safeguarding training as part of their induction, and will have refresher training annually. All employees will be referenced checked, and police checked prior to starting their position.

Job Requirements

Experience & Education


Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related area such social science.


A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in workforce learning and development, adult learning, training or a related area is required. Minimum of two years experience in the design and practical delivery of formal training sessions and programmes is required.
